Little Big 20 Years at Zenner

I was lucky to have the chance to be the lighting designer for the Little Big 20 years event at Zenner in Berlin. For the show I used 6 Light tubes 5 meters each installed inside the gate in the middle of the room as well 24x Astera Titan Tubes installed underneath the 2 large screens. All the lights are being controlled through pixel mapping in TouchDesigner and are audio-reactive.

I figured out a way to convert visual data in TouchDesigner to audio, be it pre-recorded videos or live feed. Then the audio is being sent to this vintage oscilloscope that only takes in a stereo audio feed. Basically I’m generating sound waves that sound like pictures!  This technique can be later reused for lasers.
Ambient Stage at Whole Festival

I was invited to create a light installation for the ambient stage at the Whole Festival. I partnered up with the Sumo Light and they provided 40 of their amatzing SumoSky bars that are each 2m long, 20 pixel, and 16 bit. The challenge was to create a robust and CPU-efficient TouchDesigner patch that would allow adressing all the bars in real-time and without noticeable latency to music. Each bar takes in 400 channels, so the entire installation was 40 universes. TouchDesigner patch and DMX adressing was developed by me. I also created a custom interface in TouchOSC to control the lights and also easily create scenes/presets.

First iteration of a Sumo Sky cloud at Zenner in Berlin. It took me 2 weeks to learn and fully develop the TouchDesigner as these bars were never used before for this purpose and didn’t have an interface for me to work with. So everything I had to develop from scratch. In the end the cloud is a 36 bar/universe construction covered by a diffusing semi-transparent screen. The lights are reacting to the live audio-feed.

Did lights at an event organized by ClubComission showcasing Berlin based companies working in the event field. I represented Sumo Light. The lights are 24x Sumo Sky Bars controlled via TouchDesigner.
