Sumo Sky Installations

Light Installation Series (2023-2025)
Created in TouchDesigner

Light Cloud for Nice One at Zenner, Berlin (March 2023) For Nice One, I designed an installation using Sumo Sky bars—professional film lighting equipment known for its superior color output compared to traditional stage lighting. As these lights had never been used in a live music context, I developed a custom TouchDesigner patch featuring a CPU-efficient addressing structure, abstract audio-reactive image generation, and an intuitive control interface. The installation comprised 40 light bars behind a diffusing semi-transparent screen, with visual design created in collaboration with Emilia Gentis.

Whole Festival Ambient Stage (Summer 2024) Building on the success of the first installation, Sumo Light invited us to create an expanded light cloud for the festival's ambient stage. We focused on crafting a warm, ethereal atmosphere where audiences could immerse themselves in vivid, powerful colors, creating a space dedicated to rest, regeneration, and beauty.

Light Cloud for Limousine Dream at Zenner, Berlin (February 2024) Third iteration of the Sumo Sky cloud.

Oscilloscope Art
11.2024 - ongoing

My fascination with oscilloscope art began when I received a vintage oscilloscope as a gift. I was captivated by the possibility of creating visual art on an analog device using only stereo audio input.

The unique qualities of the CRT screen—so distinct from modern displays—create an otherworldly effect. Each image appears as a fleeting moment, impossible to perfectly reproduce, while the screen's characteristic glow gives life to the figures within, evoking a sense of animated beings trapped in a luminous box.

Inspired by other oscilloscope artists, I sought to push the medium further by developing a process for real-time image display. Using TouchDesigner, I created a system that converts live visual data—whether from camera input, animation, or 3D graphics—into audio streams that can be sent directly to the oscilloscope.

This experimentation culminated in a music video for EYE's song "Sabine," which embodied the ethereal quality of the medium.

Little Big 20 Years at Zenner
26.10.2024

The Gate - Little Big 20 Years at Zenner, Berlin (2024) As lighting designer for this milestone event, I had the opportunity to collaborate with industry visionaries like Weirdcore. The installation featured six 5-meter LED tubes mounted within the central gate, complemented by 24 Astera Titan Tubes installed beneath two large screens. The entire system was controlled through pixel mapping in TouchDesigner, creating fluid, audio-reactive lighting sequences.
